This month, we're excited to shine the spotlight on Nick, a dedicated and passionate dancer who's been making waves at Evie's Dance Studio. In just a short amount of time, Nick has become an integral part of our community, and we couldn't be more thrilled to celebrate his achievements and growth.
A Personal Dance Journey
Nick joined our studio about six months ago, but his dance journey began a year ago with salsa. "When I was going through a breakup, my therapist recommended I try something I used to find fun—dancing," Nick shares. It’s amazing how dance has been a source of healing and joy in his life, and it’s clear that his passion for salsa, bachata, and cumbia has only grown stronger.
Stepping onto the dance floor for the first time was a special experience. "It felt really good," Nick says. "The class sizes allowed for more personal focus, and I was actually learning how to social dance, which made the experience so much more rewarding."
Making Connections and Building Confidence
One of the things Nick loves most about dancing is the opportunity to meet new people and build lasting friendships. "Having fun with the people I meet and making friends is definitely my favorite part of dancing," he explains. Since joining the studio, Nick has not only gained confidence but also been asked to dance by others, a milestone that he fondly remembers.
"Making notable friendships along the way has been my proudest moment as a dancer," Nick says. The sense of community at Evie’s Dance Studio is something he truly values, and it’s clear that this supportive environment has helped him grow as a dancer and as a person.
Growth Through Studio Support
At Evie’s, our instructors are dedicated to helping dancers of all levels build their confidence and skills, and Nick has benefited greatly from that support. "The studio has helped me grow by building my confidence and teaching me how to lead in my dance style," he shares. One key piece of advice that has stuck with him is: "Lead by feeling and be gentle while doing it." This approach has helped Nick become more in tune with his dance partner and enhance his overall experience on the floor.
Dancing isn’t always easy, but Nick stays motivated by practicing and asking questions. "If something doesn’t work, I try again tomorrow!" he says. It’s this kind of perseverance and dedication that makes him a standout student at our studio.
A Passion for Bachata and Salsa
While Nick loves the music of Bachata, he finds salsa dancing to be a universal language that truly speaks to him. "Salsa dancing feels like a connection that everyone can understand," he explains. He’s been working on perfecting techniques like 360 turns and improvising non-traditional moves, continuously challenging himself to grow.
As a dancer, Nick enjoys both leading and following, which he believes makes him a better dancer overall. "I prefer leading, but understanding both roles helps me be more well-rounded," he says.
Advice for Fellow Dancers
For anyone just starting their dance journey, Nick has some wise advice: "Practice walking to salsa music at home to help internalize rhythm." And for those who feel nervous about asking others to dance, he encourages fellow dancers to take the plunge. "Don’t be shy to ask people to dance at events," he suggests. "Focus on your partner and their surroundings, and practice until you feel confident."
Looking Ahead
When asked where he sees himself in the next year, Nick shares, "I’d love to perfect my dance styling and maybe even offer workshops for guys on dance styling and leading." With his dedication and passion, we have no doubt he’ll reach this goal and continue to inspire others.
Fun Facts
When it comes to dancing with famous dancers, Nick would love to dance with Romeo Santos or Prince Royce, both of whom inspire him with their Bachata music. As for a fun fact, most people wouldn’t know that Nick struggles with performance anxiety, but that doesn’t stop him from hitting the dance floor with confidence. Outside of dancing, he enjoys embroidery, creating unique designs for both men’s and women’s clothing.
Final Thoughts
Being named "Student of the Month" is a true recognition of Nick's commitment and hard work in his dance journey. "It means a lot to me," he says, "because it shows that the effort I put in is being appreciated." We couldn’t agree more—Nick truly embodies the spirit of our studio, and we are so proud to have him as part of our dance family.
Congratulations, Nick, on being our Student of the Month! Keep dancing, keep growing, and keep inspiring others with your passion. We can’t wait to see where your dance journey takes you next!
